Microsoft says XP SP1 & 2 are required prior to installing SP3 ?????

Hello all. I have a couple of questions.
Just wondering if I should skip the first 2 service packs and install just SP3?? This is how its worded on Microsoft's website for installing XP ServicePack 3:

[System Requirements
    * Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP Home Edition ; Windows XP Professional Edition ; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2]

-Also, I'm having a hard time finding the correct link's to download and "save" the following :
DirectX (most recent version)  and XP Service pack 3 ?
Will this one work with nlite :  "Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File ??"
Thanks for your help!!!

Hello twinfin,

Service packs are cumulative so yes you should install just SP3.

See this page for DirectX, click the "Download the latest DirectX" link for DirectX 9 or the "More" link for DirectX 10.

Yes and no! You can`t point nLite at it to slipstream SP3 because it`s an ISO image (it`s for installing SP3 from CD). You could extract the SP3 .exe from it and point nLite at that though. Or you could just download the SP3 .exe from microsoft directly and save downloading an extra ~200MB.

Thanks xable!! Nice to "hear it from the horses mouth"!!! (not that your a horse of coarse).

I had skipped over the link you gave me for XP SP3 other day before posting here, because I had read this statement on that link:

DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download is now available on Windows Update.

That was misleading on Microsofts part!!!

Also the DirectX links you gave wouldn't work for me. The "Download the latest DirectX" link for DirectX 9 (DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer Version: 9.25.1476) ...seems to require me to first "Validate" then gives me no choice to download and save it "just run and install" it.

The "More" link for DirectX 10 is just about FEATURED VIDEO CARDS. So  i downloaded Directx_aug2008_redist.exe Hope this will work??

I did try all of this before using your forum. but i miss stuff a lot  ;o) Thanks again for your answer and your website!!!

Thanks -Damon from santa cruz, california.

From the quick look I had it looked like the idea is you click through to the video cards website and there will be a download for DX10, don`t use DX10 so you`ll have to check it out yourself.

This is probably the most recent DX9 installer directx_9c_redist.exe.

You might want to look through all DX stuff on the download centre aswell.
