Question re SP2 UDP and IE7..

Hi,
I have updated to IE7, downloaded and installed relevant security patches from MS.

I have slipstreamed XP with SP2 and your SP2 UDP.

If I use this simply as a recovery disc to reinstall over the top of my existing system, so as not to reformat the hard drive and lose programmes etc., will I need to do anything else in relation to IE7 or will this reinstall leave IE7 unaffected?

Thank you for a great programme
Regards
Reg-Em

Re: Question re SP2 UDP and IE7..

I worked Microsoft XP support for about 6 months in a call center.

regardless of how you got your Version of Windows to XP SP2, if you install IE7 and continue forward with all other updates and at some point decide you are going to perform a Repair installation of XP SP2, you absolutely must first UNINSTALL IE7 before doing so.  During uninstall of IE7 you may get notified that certaiin updates installed after IE7 may no longer work and well that's fine, becuase your reinstall with Xables updates packs are gonna replace those probably anyway, then you'll need to either download and reinstall IE7 or check for it in Windows Updates, if it hasen't been included in Xables add-on or updates packages.

>>Please understand, this is what was understood when i worked for Microsoft support 1 year ago, since then maybe they've changed something,, i haven't gone back to try it for my self as of yet.<<

Certainly if someone else can add better light to the question, i'll bow away from what i've stated. But that was the case approximately i year ago when IE7 was just after being released.

Reg-Em, like kmhobbs says, you should probably uninstall IE7 before recovering and re-install afterwards.

Personally I use Paragon Drive Backup 6.0 to create an image of the OS partition and just restore that should I need to.

Thank you for the answers guys, I am sure that is going to save me a lot of brain ache when and/or if I need to make use of the disc.
