I didn't get any errors during the nLite process and all the correct reg entries and file versions for KB943460 are in place on my end.

However, i have just checked the KB article for KB914440, and i can see that it contains an older version of Xpsp3res.dll(5.1.2600.3011) than the one included in Xable's pack(5.1.2600.3243) and so if you add KB914440 to be integrated after Xable's pack in nLite, then you'll get an error message...

Re: SP2 Update Pack January Edition Support

gn!uz, 835221 is for SP1 like martin says. The xpsp2 version is 888111, and because it`s not on windows update, I don`t included it in my pack. If you want it just use nLite to slipstream it.

For anyone getting this message when installing an update:

"The installation cannot continue because the following packages might not be valid: <KBNUMBER> blah blah.."

This is because of migration. It`s normal behaviour which can occur when using any update pack, and the older a service pack is the more often it will occur.

I`ll not bother explaining migration, instead you can read about it in knowledge base article 824994 (4th bulllet point under the notes section)

I didn't get any errors during the nLite process also. I get error after installing of Windows and trying install KB914440. When I integrate KB914440 in distr by hands problem is gone.

When installation of KB914440 begins, installer recognizing what version is newer and don't replace file. Are you don't knew? 8-[] I check version of Xpsp3res.dll in my installed Windows (KB914440 was installed after KB943460, the method is described above) - version is 5.1.2600.3243 smile

Xable, may be make changes in method of integration of KB943460? Make like integration of KB942763? wink

Sorry, i'm not Xable, but my oppinion on this is that direct integration is the biggest advantage of using an update pack in the first place, as opposed to using the '/integrate' parameter(2nd best, as source files are updated and only reg entries and cat files added/installed from T-13), or the svcpack.inf method(3rd best, as source files isn't updated until T-13).

KB942763 is only installed through svcpack.inf because it's more safe when there's so many reg entries being added and since direct integration in this specific situation dosen't actually improve much, since there isn't any source files updated(just reg entries and one new file : '%windir%\tzchange.exe' - 59KB).

As Xable previously stated, then your problem comes from migration issues, which happens because of using an update pack(as there's no '%windir%\$hf_mig$\' folder to replace files from) and so this issue can sneak up on occassions with any of the updates, and not only KB943460.

Re: SP2 Update Pack January Edition Support

Martin, at least someone is willing to read and understand what I say.

YikxX, I`ll make it simple for you. Going back to the message:

"The installation cannot continue because the following packages might not be valid: <KBNUMBER> blah blah.."

<KBNUMBER> is the update which you should add with nLite to stop getting the message.
Make sure you uncheck the "Direct Hotfix Integration" option under the Advanced button on the hotfix page, this will add the update to svcpack instead of slipstreaming it. If you fail to uncheck that option the update will be slipstreamed, the $hf_mig$ folder will not be created and you`ll get that message again. So make sure you uncheck it.

If I wanted to change the pack to stop these messages I would have the pack create the $hf_mig$ folder with the appropriate files inside. I`m not prepared to do this because it goes against the whole point of slipstreaming and adds unnessasery bloat to the disc for the majority of users, which is again the opposite of the packs purpose.
