Thank you, Xable! Some questions, too...

First, and foremost, I've been quite happy incorporating Xable's Post-SP3 pack, along with a couple of add-ons, while using nLite - it has made my life easier!  I especially like the fact that IE 8, Windows Search 4.0, Silverlight, and Live Essential are NOT bundled in the pack, unlike a couple of other similar packs that exist.  Our environment doesn't require them and I can turn them off after running Windows Update (we have a SUS server and going to SCCM in the near future).
THANK YOU!!!

Now, I have some questions, if I may, and need some clarification.

1). I apply Xable's Microsoft's Update Engine v. 1.5, which helps to pick up Microsoft Office updates, which wouldn't occur if I would apply the Windows Update Engine.  Additionally, I apply Xable's WGAV v. 1.5 addon.  After doing my slipstream, creating and burning the image, then applying the image to a new device, then going to Microsoft Windows Update and NOT applying and also disabling:
a). Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)
b). Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810)
The PROBLEM:  I do a reboot and go back to Windows Update to see what else I need and find that the stupid Windows Notification DOES appear in Systray and notifies me of updates.  Where would this come from then?

2). After a 2nd or 3rd Windows Update, I have noted that I needed KB973540, which Xable's SP3 pack already contains.  I do use (Booogey's) WMP11 Slipstreamer and that is referenced AFTER Xable's SP3 pack in nLite.  WMP11 Slipstreamer references various WMP11 patches, and the following is noted:
  a). WMP 11 needed patch KB936782, a patch I didn't have, which was replaced by KB973540 (in Xable's SP3).
  b). A patch that I do have for WMP 11, KB959772, is super-ceded by KB973540.
QUESTION:  Should I remove KB959772 from the WMP 11 slipstream process and all will be good, or do I need to reapply KB973540 after the WMP 11 slipstream, or should I apply WMP 11 slipstream prior to Xable's, so as to keep the process seamless?  I just don't want any other .DLL or .SYS files overwritten and having further problems.  What do you think (fyi, I'm not a talented person like you people are)?

Thank you!

Re: Thank you, Xable! Some questions, too...

Thank you! I'm glad you find this stuff usefull. Let me answer those questions for you:

1. WGAN is only included in my WGAN addon, it's not in any of my other addons or update packs. Either auto updates is on and has installed it or you included it somehow and forgot.

2. If you install/slipstream a newer version of WMP you will need to install/slipstream the updates that apply to that version. The WMP updates included in my update packs are the WMP9 versions which is the version of WMP that's included with xp by default. If you install WMP11 you need to also install the WMP11 versions of the updates, which usually just means re-installing the update as most of the time a single update can update multiple WMP versions. It's not possible to include the multiple versions of the update on the CD though due to how the packs slipstream the files (you can't update what's not there wink)

I've not slept for 29 hours so I hope that's not nonsensical and it helps.

Get some sleep, dude. wink wink

1).  I did disable that option, but, something else could be activating it.  This'll take some investigation.

2). Oh, okay.  I did not know that Xable's SP3 contained a KB for an older version of WMP.  That's good to know.  I can apply the needed patch appropriately.
Thanks.
