I wouldn't usually ask, but I could really do with some more cash at the moment (couldn't we all) if you find my work usefull please feel free to make a donation, any amount will help and will be much appreciated. Thank you.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If not before, I'll see you on the 11th ;)
I am new to packs other than RyanVM post sp3 pack and was hoping to familiar myself with other post sp3 packs.
I had been told of the Xable pack and was wanting to find if it might be the best for my needs. I like more minimal content without not high priority updates for slipping.
I was to ask if there is a comparison between RyanVM post sp3 and Xable post sp3 available. Is there one?
I think I would like to know side by side to make the understanding differences easier. For demonstration purpose only:
Xable Has RyanVM

Something such as that would be helpful in understanding.
I apologize if information is somewhere available that I did not find.

My pack
includes: just the high priority updates that windows update offers you.
doesn`t include: the optional updates that window offers, the optional updates in microsoft`s download centre or request only hotfix`s.
So basicly just what you need to keep your cd patched and secure. Leaving you free to add any optional updates you may want.

I was seeking to find where RyanVM post sp3 pack ends and where Xable post sp3 pack begin.
For example of RyanVM was only up to 1.0.3 and stops at that release.
But your Xable one has most recent ones to use.
Is there a KB update that you can say "from this KB forward, Xable includes updates not available yet in RyanVM"
Thank you

Just my 2 cent: the version numbers are not comparable, they are two different packages.
Regardind the content, both include all patches from the release of SP3, but while the RyanVM stop updating in January, the Xable pack is updated with all patches released until last week.
It's therefore not possible to say: "by this KB update forward", but rather "it contains all hotfix until month X".

Like mf3imp mentioned they are entirely differant packs with also different contents and aims.
Is there a KB update that you can say "from this KB forward, Xable includes updates not available yet in RyanVM"
kb`s aren`t issued sequentially and even if they were the two packs have different contents so it would be impossible to say due to how updates and hotfix`s supersede one another.
It`s like trying to comparing apples to oranges.
If you want a pack that uses the qfe branch and includes all updates/hotfix`s released since sp3 then ryan`s is for you.
If you want a pack that just includes the updates that are in the high priority section of windows update then my pack is for you.
Understand what each pack aims to include and then you can decide which one best suits your needs.
hope that helps.

I have found out that if I slip with RyanVM post SP3 pack, when I go to windows update these 12 show as needing to be updated:
923561 - Security Update For Windows XP
938464 - Security Update For Windows XP
952004 - Security Update For Windows XP
956572 - Security Update For Windows XP
959426 - Security Update For Windows XP
960225 - Security Update For Windows XP
960803 - Security Update For Windows XP
961371 - Security Update For Windows XP
961501 - Security Update For Windows XP
968537 - Security Update For Windows XP
970238 - Security Update For Windows XP
971633 - Security Update For Windows XP
But if I use Xable post SP3 pack, all of those are included and do not show in a windows update.
That is the best outcome for me so I am glad to learn of the Xable pack.

I'm adding the following two that list since I just did this yesterday on an HP Elitebook 8530p -
1). 890830 - Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2009 (KB890830) (July's update).
2). 973346 - Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB973346)
I left out the IE 8 and WGAN hotfixes/SPs - don't want them.

I think I forgot this one too:
KB969897 - Cumulative Security Update For Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP
Will those additional three items listed be ones that change each month when updated by microsoft?

Thank you for reply
I have found this to be true. After slip of SP3 and Ryan post SP3 pack there are 16 Windows Updates listed on the microsoft site.
15 of those 16 exist in the Xable post SP3 pack:
890830 - Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2009
923561 - Security Update For Windows XP
938464 - Security Update For Windows XP
952004 - Security Update For Windows XP
956572 - Security Update For Windows XP
959426 - Security Update For Windows XP
960225 - Security Update For Windows XP
960803 - Security Update For Windows XP
961371 - Security Update For Windows XP
961501 - Security Update For Windows XP
968537 - Security Update For Windows XP
969897 - Cumulative Security Update For Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP
970238 - Security Update For Windows XP
971633 - Security Update For Windows XP
973346 - Cumulative Security Update For ActiveX Killbits For Windows XP
The one not in is here:
905474 - Windows Genuine Advantage Notification
And that is only since the last Ryan post SP3.
I now will compare Xable content for post SP3 direct to Ryan post SP3 and post it here when finished.
I think in my mind if I am correct that every entry in Xable pack will exist also in the Ryan pack and that Ryan pack will include other ones not in the Xable pack. If right that means Xable pack is leaner and puts in critical updates only.
Thank you
