Okay, so i bought my system 4 years ago next month, the parts in it are probably manufactured near a year before that. It's a P IV 2.6GHz, 1Gb Ram, 120 GB HD, AOpen AX45F4DN MotherBoard(on-board AC-97 Audio and RealTek NIC, upgraded to a BFG Nvidia 7600 GS AGP Video Display Card.
Initially this machine was pre-installed with OEM XP Pro SP1 from a company called ALC Micro, the HD was partitioned with a Recovery Partition.
( i had contacted ALC Micro, but they'll only support me with the CD as it was shipped, they won't discuss options)
I have already downloaded & backed up the latest available Motherboard and system drivers from their respective websites(the chipset on the MoBo is from SiS
In an effort to make a CD that would not re-create the recovery partition but would still install my legitimate copy of windows from ALC, i want to try the following . . .
> Download a Copy of Windows XP Pro SP1 . .
> Replace the I386 folder, with that of the I386 folder from my ALC Windows XP Pro SP1 CD . .
> Inject(slipstream) WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe (from Microsoft)
> Inject xable-SP2-UpdatePack-February-v3.0.8a.7z
> Possibley Inject some ADD-ON's
> Then from Microsoft, download and install WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe
Anybody want to respond and tell me if this will work, I have a spare hard drive to test this on, but figured I'd ask someone before i got started.

Firstly, no talk of illegal software downloading here please. You may well have a licence but I can`t allow that sort of talk here, it`s a slippery slope.
Second, you may be able to edit the recovery disc so it doesn`t create a recovery partition, UBCD4Win.com may be able to help you with that. Or you could install as normal and format the recovery partition freeing it up for data storage.

Understood regarding the downloading issue, i knew it was sketchy thing to say, but it's the thought process i had. I'll check out the site you suggested.
As far as letting it install that recovery partition, yeah been through that to many times, hate having to do a full install then load partitioning software to recover the wasted disk space. it's a small thing, but a pain i'm just tired of dealing with.
Thanks for your input

XP has built in disc management so providing it can see the partition there`s no need for extra software.
My backup app takes care of partitioning too which is handy.
