I'm in th process of reformating and reinstalling XP+SP3 on my laptop. I did am nLite slipstream when SP2 came out but forgot everything since then so sorry for the stupid question... It appears I only need WGAN and not both WGAN and WGAV is this correct? is there an advantage to having both?

You only need one or the other and there is no advantage in having both. Which one you use is your choice.
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation (WGAV) = Allows you to download files from microsoft that first require you to validate your copy of windows as genuine.
Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications (WGAN) = Same as above, also notifies you if your copy of windows is not genuine.

I'm a little confused, is this the latest version for Windows XP? I still only see 1.8.31.9 on the Microsoft website. Do you know what is new about it? I trying to decide whicg version to slipstream 1.8.31.9 or 1.9.9.1 and WGA validation or WGA notifications? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all your work!

This is the latest version of wga yeah. wgaV lets you access windows update, wgaN does the same and also notifys you via a tray icon popup if your copy of windows is not genuine. So basicaly wgaN is wgaV but with an added tray nagger. Confusing I know. The 1.9.9.1 version of wga comes with wgaN, new versions are often not fully rolled out for a while.
Microsoft don`t release a changelog for wga as far as I`m aware.
Personaly I use wgaV.
Thanks, your welcome!
